DIGITAL BULLETIN BOARD

Casino Jaragua is part of the emblematic Hotel Jaragua located in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic and part of the important chain Marriott International.

This casino operates 24 hours, 7 days a week in different shifts and groups of employees who have the need for receive information in a main channel from the directive staff of the company and be able to perform their duties smoothly and efficiently without the need of intense supervision.

PROBLEM
 ̄ ̄

At the time my services were requested by the Human Resources department, the situation was that this department could not work 24/7 at full capacity while the casino operated without stop, because of this at the time of communicating certain kind of information they should conduct several rounds of meetings to cover all the staff. At this time the main channel of communication was a physical bulletin board, but it lacked employee attention and information went unnoticed most of the time.

My mission was to create an effective communication channel that will centralize all the important information that needs to be transmitted from the Human Resources office to each employee of the casino. At first, the assumption was created a web portal for employees, but research led us to other solution.

APPROACH
 ̄ ̄

The initial idea of this product was to create a responsive website where all the information would be published, that could only be accessed by employees through a computer or smartphone with individual credentials.

When we interviewed employees from different levels of staff we discover that a large part of these could not have access to this site since they did not have Internet access, more than 50% said they would not have time to visited or that they would need assistance from a third party to access the portal.

On the other hand, the information that would be published in some cases was sensitive to the business or could reveal information to undesired persons. In conclusion, we drop the idea to publish this content on a public website.

SOLUTION
 ̄ ̄

After the research, the creation of a digital signage bulletin board, which could carry multimedia content (text, image, animations, and video) in a more attractive way, easy to update and with the great advantage of remote content administration using a CMS for its feeding, was proposed as a solution.

This content would be published in a strategic space for all employees had the opportunity to see it several times in their workday using a 60 inches screen as digital signage.

In addition to the corporate content, it was determined for increasing the interest in visualizing this information we had to make a content mix by adding information of social events and content developed or related to the employees themselves.

Content mix in % (percentage) of screen space

RESULTS
 ̄ ̄

With the final result, the number of meetings for general topics was reduced by 60%, the bulletin board engagement increased by 80% and the time spend to update the content was reduced to less than half, using the CMS in instead of placing prints on the board, everything stays in a private space only with access by the content managers and the screens designated to show as content.

After a few months of successful completion of the pilot project, an additional screen was placed in the employee recreation area without duplicating efforts.
